Para celebrar el 50 aniversario de la publicación de una de las obras de rock más famosas, el 17 de septiembre se reedita en varios formatos el álbum de doble concepto Jesus Christ Superstar (1970, la primera versión teatral), un proyecto discográfico con la participación de los dos creadores de la ópera, Tim Rice y Andrew Lloyd Webber; Boxset 3CD LTD Edition con demostraciones exclusivas, notas biográficas y entrevistas y otras dos ediciones estándar, 2CD y 2LP.

En 1970, Jesus Christ Superstar se convirtió en un éxito de ventas mundial, subiendo a la cima de la lista de Billboard el año siguiente, febrero y marzo de 1971, y convirtiéndose en el álbum más vendido incluso en las listas de fin de año. Para 1983, el disco ya había vendido más de 7 millones de copias en todo el mundo.
