La primera colección que abarca toda la carrera discográfica de la REINA DEL SOUL.

La caja de 4CDs incluye más de 80 grabaciones, 19 de ellas son versiones alternativas inéditas, demos, rarezas, y actuaciones especiales en directo.

La colección está acompañada de notas escritas por Rochelle Riley, autora y directora de arte y cultura de la ciudad de Detroit, y David Nathan. La colección también cuenta con impresionantes diseños del célebre artista Makeba KEEBS Rainey, quien aporta su estilo característico a una foto de la Reina del Soul tomada por el legendario fotógrafo Neal Preston.

ARETHA abre con "Never Grow Old" y "You Grow Closer", que fueron lanzados como su primer sencillo en 1956 por J.V.B Records. La versión de estudio inédita del éxito número 1 de Debby Boone "You Light Up My Life". 

Las siguientes 10 canciones se centran en el período entre 1960 y 1966 cuando Franklin firmó con Columbia Records. La mayor parte de ARETHA está dedicada a su permanencia en Atlantic Records entre 1967 y 1979, que incluyó cinco álbumes consecutivos que fueron número uno en las listas de R&B. 

Las dos primeras canciones inéditas de la colección, "My Kind Of Town (Detroit Is)" y "Try A Little Tenderness", son demos caseras que grabó en 1966 para entregar posteriormente a Jerry Wexler, productor y ejecutivo de Atlantic

Los mayores éxitos de Franklin también están aquí, como “I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You),” “(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You’ve Been Gone” y su éxito clásico "Respect".
