"Shadows and Light es el segundo álbum en directo de Joni Mitchell. Salió a la venta en septiembre de 1980 a través de Asylum Records, siendo su último trabajo para la discográfica. Fue grabado en septiembre de 1979 en el Santa Barbara Bowl de Santa Bárbara, California.

Para el álbum, Mitchell contó con el apoyo de una banda de aclamados músicos de jazz y fusión formada por el guitarrista Pat Metheny, el bajista Jaco Pastorius, el batería Don Alias, el teclista Lyle Mays y el saxofonista Michael Brecker. Además, el grupo vocal The Persuasions aparece en la canción que da título al disco y en una versión de «Why Do Fools Fall in Love» de Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers."
